A collection "Drawings from Prison" were made between 1951 and 1959 in the prisons of the Penitentiary of Lisbon, where Álvaro Cunhal spent seven years in rigorous isolation, and from the Fort of Peniche, from where he escaped on January 3, 1960. They were first published by the "Avante!" Editions in December 1975 as part of fundraising initiatives for the Portuguese Communist Party.

The artwork, titled "Julho 1958" (July 1958), referencing the collective movements or resistance during that era. The detailed shading and use of light and shadow give the landscape and figures a three-dimensional depth, making the scene more dynamic. This piece appears to reflect themes of perseverance, struggle, and perhaps political or social commentary on the period in which it was created.
