A collection "Drawings from Prison" were made between 1951 and 1959 in the prisons of the Penitentiary of Lisbon, where Álvaro Cunhal spent seven years in rigorous isolation, and from the Fort of Peniche, from where he escaped on January 3, 1960. They were first published by the "Avante!" Editions in December 1975 as part of fundraising initiatives for the Portuguese Communist Party.

The figures, sketched with flowing, dynamic lines, seem to float across a barren landscape under a vast sky. The simplicity of the setting allows the focus to rest on the dancers, whose movements symbolize togetherness, freedom, and celebration of life. The use of light and shadow gives the figures depth, and their interlinked hands highlight the importance of connection and unity. The rhythmic energy in the piece evokes a sense of harmony with nature and with each other.
