A collection "Drawings from Prison" were made between 1951 and 1959 in the prisons of the Penitentiary of Lisbon, where Álvaro Cunhal spent seven years in rigorous isolation, and from the Fort of Peniche, from where he escaped on January 3, 1960. They were first published by the "Avante!" Editions in December 1975 as part of fundraising initiatives for the Portuguese Communist Party.

The composition is filled with lively figures dancing, playing instruments, and wearing festive costumes, led by two giant, exaggerated puppets towering above the crowd. These oversized puppets add a whimsical and surreal element to the scene. The band playing in the background heightens the joyful atmosphere, as people of all ages join the festivities with exuberant movements. The use of detailed line work brings each character to life, giving the piece a sense of movement and rhythm, reminiscent of traditional street parades.
